What We Would Put in the Rocky Mount Time Capsule

In 2017, Rocky Mount turned 150 years old, and the celebrations were highlighted by the opening of a time capsule in the fall. Afterwards, residents had a chance to submit suggestions for what they thought should be placed in a new time capsule to be opened in 50 years. While the city has sealed the time capsule to be opened in another 50 years, we couldn't help but think about what we would have selected to go in it.

Top Ten Facts About Rocky Mount Mills

From the gazebo at Battle Park, visitors can watch the Tar River cascade over the rocky boulders at the "falls of the Tar." The rolling water hearkens back to a time when the flowing river complemented the rattle and hum coming from the machines at Rocky Mount Mills. While the mill itself has gone silent, the area is very much alive. New innovations, a brewery incubator, restoration of the mill village and even a mill 5K run mark a new era for this North Carolina landmark.
