Overcoming Poverty with Downtown Revitalization in Rocky Mount, NC

Southern Bank Announces Plans to Build in Downtown Rocky Mount, NC

Rocky Mount Overcoming Poverty

Have you heard the news? Southern Bank will complete a three-story business center in our own downtown Rocky Mount, North Carolina. This is great news for the city’s revitalization efforts. We know that an increase in downtown employees means an increase in revenue for all downtown businesses – restaurants, retailers and gas stations, just to name a few. Having a vibrant downtown benefits the entire community!

The bank could have built this new office anywhere, but they chose our downtown area because, as Mayor David Combs said, "There is investment being made in downtown Rocky Mount that will continue to spur other economic development in that area."

The new business center will be located at the corner of Sunset Avenue and North Church Street. The 18,000-square-foot building will house the bank mortgage and customer care centers that support all Southern Bank markets in North Carolina and Virginia. It will take approximately one year to build.

Southern Bank has added about 20 new employees in the last two years, so they need the extra space to continue doing what they do best in this time of economic growth.

"Rocky Mount is a flagship market for our bank, and we are proud to make this investment in the community – particularly in downtown Rocky Mount,” said Michael T. Bryant, regional executive for the bank’s west region.

This commitment to the revitalization of downtown Rocky Mount by private industry is encouraging. We couldn’t be more thrilled to watch as these revitalization efforts are paying off!
