Remembering the Days of the June Germans

What We Would Put in the Rocky Mount Time Capsule

In 2017, Rocky Mount turned 150 years old, and the celebrations were highlighted by the opening of a time capsule in the fall. Afterwards, residents had a chance to submit suggestions for what they thought should be placed in a new time capsule to be opened in 50 years. While the city has sealed the time capsule to be opened in another 50 years, we couldn't help but think about what we would have selected to go in it.

Eastern Carolina BBQ Throwdown Continues to be a Tasty Delight for Rocky Mount

If you’re from the South, barbecue is a part of your heritage as much as church potlucks and sweet tea. In October, Rocky Mount held one of its most popular annual events: the Eastern Carolina BBQ Throwdown. The event, which is sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society, included over 50 cooking teams and 60 certified judges, drawing thousands of participants and spectators, according to the Rocky Mount Telegram.
